Month by Month Review

prep

conducting

In practice, month by month reviews can take quite a while, especially for larger groups. Experience has shown the following help:

  • 1 month at a time for each person. That is, everybody does January one at a time, then everybody does February etc. Often friends (and couples) have shared events during some months and thus it helps if everyone gets a chance to talk about one month before moving onto the next month. This primary time sort also provides a good feeling for the whole group of how far the group as a whole has made progress in going through the past year (or quarter).
  • 3 minutes per person per month. Someone needs to set up a fairly visible/audible timer to count down the time and reset it for each person. Due to the fact that month by month reviews can take a while, placing a 3 minute limit helps people focus and move more swiftly through their summaries. When people have particularly intense / amazing months, the group as a whole may consider simply letting them go over a bit.
  • 5 minutes per past quarter during annual. at the recent LifeCamp2008PortZero we tried doing all of Q3 per person at once, and while it was challenging, since it covered material that most of the participants had already summarized during LifeCamp2008Q3PortZero, it actually worked reasonably well, if a bit dense and overwhelming.
